LETS - Local Exchange Trading Systems or Schemes - are local community-based mutual aid networks in which people exchange all kinds of goods and services with one another, without the need for money.

'Through LETS, people have access to goods and services they might not otherwise have been able to afford in the cash economy. They are able to improve their skills and sense of self-worth by offering services that other people value, and pay for in local currency.' New Economics Foundation

'Members help each other informally, described as a "merry-go-round of favours". This is the sort of assistance in the social sphere that money simply cannot buy. It helps to create a "caring, sharing and friendly community'. Colin C Williams, Researcher
